When Life Doesn't Go to Plan (and It Won't)
This week, my son turned 21 — and it got me thinking about how much of life is about pivoting.
You can have the clearest plan, the biggest dreams, the best intentions… and still, life will find a way to throw you a curveball. (Honestly, it’s almost a guarantee.)
Thinking back over the last 21 years, I realized something important:
The magic isn’t in having the perfect plan — it’s in being able to adjust when things get messy, complicated, or just plain hard.
You can’t control every twist and turn. You can control how you react, how flexible you’re willing to be, and how you keep moving forward even when it feels tough.
When you hit a rough patch — and you will — here are a few quick reminders to keep in your back pocket:
5 Quick Tips for Pushing Through When It Gets Hard
✨ Focus on what you can control.
Your attitude. Your effort. Your next small step. That’s where your power is.
✨ Give yourself permission to pivot.
Changing direction doesn’t mean you failed. It means you're smart enough to adjust.
✨ Keep the vision, change the route.
Your end goal can stay the same even if you have to take a few detours along the way.
✨ Progress is rarely a straight line.
There will be bumps. Expect them. Plan for them. Don’t be scared by them.
✨ Celebrate tiny wins.
A step forward is a step forward, no matter how small it feels.
So if life doesn’t look exactly like you pictured right now, that’s okay.
Pivoting isn’t quitting. It’s just adjusting your sails so you can keep moving toward where you want to go.
You’ve got this.
