A Little Sunshine, A Lot of Possibilities: Revisiting the Café Sunshine Cardigan

Some designs deserve a second look! The Café Sunshine Cardigan was originally published in I Like Crochet magazine in 2017, and I’ve been revisiting this crochet design with fresh ideas and new samples to show you just how much you can do with a pattern you already love.

The Café Sunshine Cardigan is a top-down, short-sleeved cardigan featuring a delicate lace yoke. It’s a timeless piece that works beautifully for layering, whether you’re heading to your favorite café or adding a little handmade sunshine to your everyday wardrobe.

But why stop at the original version?

I’ve created new samples using worsted-weight yarn, opening up another option for crocheters who prefer a slightly different fabric and yarn feel. I’m also exploring ways to customize the design, including adding a raised back neckline for a more comfortable fit, creating a cropped version, and playing with color—like changing colors along the yoke to give the lace detail even more personality.

My goal is to help you see your patterns as starting points for creativity. With a few thoughtful adjustments, you can make a design work for your preferred yarn, your body, and your personal style.

Whether you stick with the original DK-weight version or try one of these new variations, there’s plenty of room to make the Café Sunshine Cardigan your own.
